Planning is underway for in-person commencement ceremonies for law students on Friday, May 7, and for undergraduate students on Thursday, May 27. The annual law awards ceremony will take place virtually. The undergraduate baccalaurate service scheduled for Wednesday, May 26, is cancelled.
Both ceremonies will be compliant with campus Covid-19 protocols and the recently released Virginia state guidelines for commencements. They will be held on Wilson Field, rain or shine. Law graduates will each be permitted four guests, and graduating seniors will each be permitted two guests. These numbers are based on the state guidelines for commencements and venue capacity. We will livestream the events to allow anyone who is unable to attend in person to participate as fully as possible.
In the event that one or both of these events cannot take place in person due to severe weather or a widespread Covid-19 outbreak on campus, we will hold it virtually.
We will provide more details about our plans on this website as they become available.
We regret that the persistence of the virus, the current status of national vaccination efforts, and the inadvisability of interstate travel will not allow us to host safe and responsible events for members of the undergraduate and law classes of 2020 this spring.
We remain committed to hosting our 2020 graduates on-campus as soon as is practical, and are working with members of the classes to identify new dates and plan appropriate celebrations. We will post updates on those plans to this website.
