Helpful Resources

On Campus

  • Student Health Center — can provide immediate medical support for students acutely impaired by alcohol; this is a ‘safe zone' where students seeking this kind of support for themselves or a friend do not experience any disciplinary consequences for seeking help. The SHC can also help with assessment of potential alcohol or substance-related problems, provide education about healthy use, and make referrals to appropriate treatment resources.
  • Counseling Center — can provide assessment of potential alcohol or substance use problems, short-term psychoeducation treatment for minor problems, and referral to appropriate treatment resources for more serious problems as appropriate.
  • Alcohol Assessment — brief screenings are the quickest way to determine if you or someone you care about should connect with a mental health professional. This program is completely anonymous and confidential, and immediately following the brief questionnaire you will see your results, recommendations, and key resources.
  • Washingtonian Society Support Group — weekly peer support group for students who recognize problems with alcohol or substances and want help with change. Free and open to all undergraduate and law students. Fridays, 5:30 PM at the Washington House, 212 N. Main Street (two doors down from Financial Aid office).
  • Recovery Support — a Recovery Support Specialist who provides support to students who recognize their challenges with alcohol and/or other substances. Contact University Counseling at 540-458-8590 or visit go.wlu.edu/counseling
