Classrooms and Labs

What is it?

More than 95 percent of University classrooms have installed presentation technology. Specific features vary by classroom, but the standard features may include:

  • Digital projector or flat panel display
  • Resident computer
  • Document camera
  • DVD or Blu-Ray player
  • Laptop connections
  • Control system (touch or button panel)

Some classrooms offer additional features:

  • Software (YuJa) and cameras installed in some classrooms allow faculty members to create a video of classroom activity, including presentations and other materials displayed on the classroom computer. Faculty members can publish the videos for access by their students.

  • Interactive displays (Sharp digital annotation flat panels) allow digital annotation of computer content that can be saved to a file and shared with students.

  • Wireless presentation/projection is available via Apple TV and/or Mersive Solstice Pods:

    • Apple TV allows Apple devices (MacOS devices, iPhones, and iPads) to project wirelessly using the AirPlay feature. While easy to use, Apple TV does have some limitations: it is only compatible with Apple devices and does not allow for multiple users to connect at the same time.

    • Solstice supports Apple products, Windows computers and tablets, and Android devices. Additionally, multiple users are able to connect and share at the same time.

Computer Labs

ITS manages public computer labs across campus. In addition, some departments maintain specialized computer labs for their students.

Macs and PCs for student/faculty use are available in the Innovation Lab (main floor of Leyburn Library and the Video Editing Suite in on the main level of Leyburn Library. Several computers have attached scanners. All PCs have Adobe CS, statistical software, Microsoft Office, and dual monitors. The Macs have iMovie, Adobe CS, Microsoft Office, etc.

Leyburn Library 301 (on Lower Level 3) has 21 Mac computers: one professor workstation and 20 student computers. 

IQ Center

The IQ Center in the Science Center contains a computer visualization lab, a stereo 3D lab, and a mechanical/physical lab, in addition to advanced scientific equipment. Classroom spaces and instrumentation suites in the IQ Center may be reserved using either 25Live or the SharePoint calendar system.

Faculty, staff, and students.

How do I get it?

  • For technical support in a classroom, press the “Help” button on the classroom control touch panel. A member of the Classroom Technologies staff will respond to the request for help. You can also contact the ITS Information Desk in Leyburn Library at 540.458.4357 (HELP) or email help@wlu.edu with questions or to request training.
