Kate graduated in 2011 with a major in Accounting & Business Administration and a minor in Poverty Studies & Human Capability. Kate spent much of her academic career at W&L working to blend her two focuses (Finance & Poverty Studies) into one learning experience. Her involvement in the Shepherd Program clarified Kate’s desire to pursue a career that would help her local community by maximizing positive impact through business. After graduation, Kate pursued her Masters in Accounting at the University of Virginia, became a CPA, then started her career in the Assurance Practice at Ernst & Young in Washington, DC. After three years of public accounting at EY, Kate decided it was time to shift her career path to be more directly focused on her community. She joined Raffa PC in 2015 where she worked with nonprofits to improve their finance and accounting functions. In 2016, Kate left public accounting all together to join Goodwill of Greater Washington as it Manager of Accounting Operations. At Goodwill, Kate manages the day-to-day operations of the organization's finance division. As Kate explains, “I have found a wonderful combination of my finance and accounting background and my passion to give back to my community.”
