How to Volunteer with the Office of Sustainability

  • Apply to be a campus Eco-Rep.This volunteer peer-education program provides training and support for students who want to promote sustainable practices among their friends, teammates, hall-mates etc. and help the Office of Sustainability design new programs and initiatives. The basic time commitment (including training) is approximately 12 hours a semester.
  • Apply to be a Sustainability Leading Edge Trip Leader. Trip Leaders spend a packed week with incoming first-year students as they are introduced to W&L and essential topics in sustainability through the Sustainability LeadingEdge pre-orientation program. Service is volunteer, but housing and meals are provided throughout the week. Applications are typically due in April for the August program.
  • Sustainability Sign-up! Use this form to indicate interest in volunteering with the Office of Sustainability. We will periodically reach out to contacts on this list for help with one-time needs, often associated with large events or hands-on Woods Creek restoration volunteer days. Signing up just gets you on the contact list - no obligation implied. Jobs for extroverts & introverts alike!
  • Get out to the Campus Garden! Whether you are interested in a regular shift or just want to join in a one-time garden volunteer day, use the GivePulse page to register for shifts helping to plant, weed, harvest and generally spend some time getting your hands dirty and your head clear!

Have a specific idea you'd like to explore? You are always welcome to contact director of sustainability Jane Stewart to brainstorm on collaborative opportunities!
