First-Year Housing
All First-Year students at Washington and Lee University are required to live in on-campus housing.
The First-Year residence hall floors are divided into sections of 12 to 20 students, each supervised by a Resident Adviser who is a trained, upper-division student capable of giving sympathetic and informed guidance to new students. In keeping with the traditions of student life at the University, the regulation of residence hall life is based on the principle of student self-government. Except for regulations pertaining to health, safety, alcohol, and drugs, regulations governing residential life—quiet hours and visitation policy, for example—are set by the residents of each section in statements of social responsibility.
Rooms with facilities for qualified students with documented disabilities are available in both singles and doubles, with no additional charge when a single room is approved as a disability accommodation. Pets are not allowed in University housing, but service animals are allowed on campus and in housing. Emotional assistance animals are allowed in housing if approved in advance as an accommodation for a documented disability in accordance with the Fair Housing Act, Virginia Fair Housing Law, and University Policy.

Woods Creek Apartment Floor Plans
The letters in the apartment addresses note the quadrant of the buildings; the numbers note floor level. However, the numbers are only relative because the apartment buildings are built into a hill. So the highest number in a quadrant will always be the top floor, but the lowest number is not necessarily at ground level.
The apartment floor plans are all similar to Woods Creek East D1, with a living room, kitchen, large bathroom, and balcony.

Theme Housing
Theme housing is a unique living opportunity provided to upper-division students at W&L. Students taking advantage of this opportunity are afforded experiences that center around a variety of organizational, cultural, and personal interests. Students reside in theme houses for the purpose of bonding around, and sharing with the campus community, a common theme. Each house, its theme, and amenities are unique. There is a Residence Life staff member assigned to each house who, in addition to fulfilling administrative tasks, is responsible for building community through programming as well as advocating for their community's needs and interests. A faculty or staff member at W&L who embraces the theme also serves as an adviser to each theme house. Take a look below at all of the great theme houses and their unique characteristics. Click here for more information on each theme.
Each year during winter term, rising sophomores and juniors are encouraged to apply to theme house living prior to general housing selection. These applications are reviewed by house advisers and/or Residence Life staff in order to determine occupancy for the next academic year. For questions about theme house applications or the assignment process, please email housing@wlu.edu.

Greek Housing
Greek chapters generally set their own requirements for eligibility to live in the chapter house. Those requirements can vary from chapter to chapter. In terms of the University's standards, however, the chapter President is required to live in the chapter house. Additional upper-division students and/or officers are encouraged to live-in as well. The remainder of the rooms may be filled with any member of the chapter who is a sophomore or above. Sophomores and juniors who live in fraternity houses satisfy the University's residency requirement for the respective class year.
Each house, with the exception of Alpha Delta Pi and Delta Society, has a live-in House Director. Alpha Delta Pi and Delta Society have a Community Assistant.
