Important Dates for Residential Students
2022-23 Academic Year
The term "University Housing" refers to ALL University-owned housing facilities including Gaines, Graham-Lees, Woods Creek Apartments, the Village, theme and fraternity/sorority houses.

Winter & Spring Housing 2023
Students returning to W&L who did not have a fall housing assignment and need one for winter term must complete a housing application in eRezLife between October 17th and November 18th.
- Saturday, January 7, 2023 - Housing Reopens.
- University housing opens for all undergraduate students.
- Students participating in sorority recruitment, athletics, certain leadership positions, and students with extenuating circumstances may be pre-approved for an earlier arrival date. Please check with your coach and/or organizational advisor. All other early arrival requests are reviewed on a case-by-case basis for extenuating circumstances only. If you would like to request early arrival based on extenuating circumstance, please complete the "Early Arrival Request" via erezlife. This form opens on November 28th and closes December 20th.
- Monday - Friday, February 20-24, 2023 - Washington Break.
- University housing remains open. Students who are traveling away from campus are encouraged to conserve energy by unplugging appliances (except fridges), adjusting thermostats, turning off lights, and closing all windows. Please take out trash, remove perishables, and secure windows/doors.
- Wednesday, March 1, 2023 - Spring Term Housing Application and Departure Form Open
- Students who are vacating housing at the end of winter term must complete the "Winter Departure Form" via eRezLife. The deadline is Wednesday, March 29th.
- Students who need housing for spring term may complete the "Spring Term Housing Application" via eRezLife. The deadline is Wednesday, March 29th.
- For room swaps, the incoming resident must note the preferred room on the application and the departing resident must fill out the housing departure form.
- Sunday, April 15 - 23, 2023 - Spring break.
- University housing remains open. Students who are traveling away from campus are encouraged to conserve energy unplugging appliances (except fridges), adjusting thermostats, turning off lights, take out trash, closing all windows, removing perishables, and securing windows/doors.
- Students returning from abroad or moving into spring term housing may do so on Saturday, April 22nd. Swipe access will be activated and you may pick up you room key from Public Safety this day.
- Students not returning spring term (spring option, abroad, leave, etc.) must completely vacate housing, clean, remove all items, and return key to Public Safety by 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 16, 2023 to avoid fees.
- Students not returning to must complete the Housing Departure Form in eRezLife by April 7, 2023.
- Items left behind will be considered abandoned property and are subject to donation or disposal. Students are NOT permitted to store belongings in campus housing.
- Students may request an extended stay via eRezLife beginning March 17th and by no later than April 7, 2023. Extended stay requests are reviewed and approved on a case by case basis for extenuating circumstances only.
- University housing remains open. Students who are traveling away from campus are encouraged to conserve energy unplugging appliances (except fridges), adjusting thermostats, turning off lights, take out trash, closing all windows, removing perishables, and securing windows/doors.
- Monday, May 22, 2023 - Housing Closes for all students except graduating seniors and approved late stays.
- Students may request an extended stay via eRezLife beginning April 24th and by no later than May 15th, 2023.
- Extended stay requests are reviewed and approved on a case by case bases for extenuating circumstances only or those participating in commencement ceremonies.
- Sunday, May 28, 2023 - Housing Closes for all graduating seniors and approved late stays.
- Students may request an extended stay via eRezLife beginning April 24th and by no later than May 15th, 2023.
- Extended stay requests are reviewed and approved on a case by case basis for extenuating circumstances only or those participating in commencement ceremonies.
Summer 2023
Washington and Lee University offers summer housing to undergraduate students who are engaged in faculty research or other essential campus work. Students requesting housing for other reasons may apply, but preference will be given to those working on campus. The application will open in eRezLife between April 3, 2023 and will close May 1, 2023.
- Monday, June 5, 2023 - Summer Housing Opens. Students may pick up their key from Public Safety. Swipes activated this day.
- Monday, July 31, 2023 - Housing Closes for all summer residents. Unless approved for an early arrival/fall housing transition for fall term 2023, students must completely vacate housing, clean, remove all items, and return key to Public Safety by 5:00 p.m. on June 31, 2023 to avoid fees. Items left behind will be considered abandoned property and are subject to donation or disposal. Students are NOT permitted to store belongings in campus housing unless approved for an early arrival/fall housing transition.
- More information on requesting an early arrival for Fall Term 2023 coming this Summer. Students approved for early arrival or to transition to their fall assignment will need to await specific instructions from Residence Life. Early arrival/fall transition dates will vary depending on when housing is move-in ready.
