Lift the handset and dial the number. If dialing an on-campus number, use the four-digit extension only. If dialing an off-campus number, include a "9" before the phone number
How do I use the speakerphone function?
Leave the handset in place, and press the black "Speaker" button at the bottom of the phone
How do I answer a call?
- Using the handset (private call): lift the telephone handset
- Using the speaker: press the Speaker key
- Using a headset: Press the Answer key
How do I transfer a call?
To consult with the other party before transferring:
- While on a call press the Transfer key.
- Use the key pad to dial the telephone number to which the held call is to be transferred.
- If you want all three parties to speak together, then a 3-way call can be established by pressing the Conf or Conference softkey.
- If you decide not to complete the transfer, then the call can be terminated by pressing the EndCall softkey.
- You can complete the transfer by pressing the Transfer key.
To transfer a call without consulting with the other party (Blind Transfer)
- While on the call press the Transfer key.
- Press the Blind softkey, then use the key pad to dial the telephone number to which the held call is to be transferred.
- You can complete the transfer by pressing the Transfer key.
How do I use the Corporate Directory?
The NEC phone system has a built-in directory of all W&L employee phone numbers. To access the directory:- Push the right side of the cursor pad (see illustration)
- Push the button of the cursor pad, to move the cursor to "Corporate Directory"
- Push the center of the cursor pad to select "Corporate Directory"
- Use the keypad to enter a part or all of the first or last name
- Push the center of the cursor pad to start the search
- Use the Up and Down keys on the cursor pad to scroll through the search results. Press the center of the cursor pad to select a number
How do I place a conference call?
For a conference call involving three parties:
- While on a call, press the Conference or Conf softkey.
- Use the key pad to dial the telephone number of the party to be joined in the conference.
- Complete the conference by pressing the Conf or Conference softkey. If you decide not to complete the conference, then the call can be terminated by pressing the EndCall softkey.
Contact ITS (help@wlu.edu or x4357) for instructions on how to make a conference call involving more than three parties. Some departments have made arrangements with ITS for commercial 800-number options for teleconferencing; check with the administrative assistant of your department for availability.
What are Softkeys on my NEC phone?
Softkeys are buttons that change function depending on the situation. Their current function is highlighted immediately above the button on the LED screen
How do I activate the Do Not Disturb feature?
When the Do Not Disturb feature is activated, your phone will not ring during an incoming call; instead, the caller will be routed directly to voicemail.
- To activate Do Not Disturb, dial *78 and then press the "Dial" softkey
- To remove Do Not Disturb, dial *79 and then press the "Dial" softkey
How do I view my call history, including missed calls?
- Press the menu button
- Press the "2" key to select Call History
- Press "1" (Missed Calls), "2" (Received Calls) or "3 (Placed Calls).
- Use the cursor pad to scroll down and view the entries
How do I change call volume?
Press the top of the cursor pad (increase volume) or the bottom of the cursor pad (decrease volume)
How do I change the name/number on a programmed key?
I programmed a button on my phone for an employee that has left the position or gone to a new one with a new number and I need to change the information.
- Press Feature key
- Press Program (soft key)
- Press the button that you have programmed
- Edit
- Choose what you need to edit (1) name and/or (2) extension number
- Type in the new name and/or number
- Press OK
- Press Save
- Press Exit or Home
