  • Student Consulting - Washington and Lee Student Consulting (WLSC) is a student organization created to provide pro bono consulting services to businesses and not-for-profit community organizations. Student consultants will focus on financial consulting, management consulting, human resource consulting, public relations consulting or any number of other sub-specialties.

Ben Ersing '12

As an undergrad at W&L, Ben created his own major in "International Political Economy," minored in Latin American and Caribbean Studies, was captain of the wrestling team, a member of Phi Gamma Delta, and co-founded General's Development Initiative (GenDev). Following graduation he went on to complete a Masters in International Business and Diplomacy at New York University where he also worked with development economist Dr. William Easterly. Upon graduating, Ben joined a boutique international management consulting and transaction advisory firm where he worked with healthcare, technology, media and telecommunications companies, as well as domestic and foreign government agencies, on their emerging markets growth and investment strategies. His work took him to numerous countries across the Middle East, Africa and Latin America. At the beginning of 2018, Ben joined CVS Health’s Enterprise Strategy & Corporate Development team where he worked on the Aetna acquisition, and continues to support enterprise strategy, innovation and business development efforts across the enterprise.

Spencer Karney '05

Spencer is currently Director of Competitive Strategy for Asurion in Nashville, TN. Prior to joining Asurion in 2016, he worked as a Manager with Deloitte Consulting's Monitor Deloitte Strategy practice where he managed strategy and implementation projects for health care, consumer products, and telecommunications clients. While pursuing his MBA at Duke, Spencer was a Summer Intern Consultant with the Strategy & Transformation practice of IBM Global Business Services as well as a strategy consultant for Wasserman Media Group's Hispanic Consulting group. Spencer is an avid golfer, traveler, and sports fan.

Van Nguyen '11

Van previously worked in management consultant for McKinsey & Company, Vietnam Office, for 4 years. Since joining McKinsey in the summer of 2011, Van has advised Fortunes 500's companies in several industries, including financial services, oil & gas, consumer goods, and public policy, ranging across multiple functions. Her clients were primarily from Southeast Asia aspiring to capitalize on the region's growth potential. The most exotic client location was definitely Papua New Guinea, where Van is pretty sure that she is still among the first 50 Vietnamese nationals who ever set foot in the country!

Stephen Mitchell '17

Stephen is a Senior Associate Consultant at Bain & Company in the Atlanta office. At Bain, he has worked with Fortune 500 companies and leading private equity firms across a number of industries, including consumer goods, healthcare, and industrials. He also spent six months on externship working at Blue Apron. While at Washington & Lee, he majored in Mathematics and Business Administration. He was tenor section leader for the University Singers, president of Southern Comfort a cappella group, and group head of the energy sector for the Williams Investment Society.

Kelly Stewart Nichols '00

Kelly is a principal with Woollard Nichols & Associates (WNA), an Austin-based consulting firm committed to nurturing social impact through strategy, development & support for coalitions, associations, organizations and initiatives, an organization she co-founded in 2013. WNA works with non-profit executive directors, government administrators, and other social sector leaders to support collaborative initiatives, coalitions and boards to articulate their vision and take concrete action steps to achieve their goals.

Rebecca Russell '08

Rebecca is a Principal in Bain & Company’s Atlanta office where she began in 2008. She is a member of Bain’s Consumer Products and Retail practices. During her time at Bain, Rebecca has worked with senior management teams at large, multi-national clients to help them tackle issues such as growth strategy, M&A, organizational effectiveness and other transformational topics. In addition to her time at Bain, Rebecca has worked in hospitality strategy and retail strategy. Rebecca has an MBA from The Wharton School, where she was a Palmer Scholar and focused on real estate. She received her BS in business administration from Washington & Lee University.
