Joanna Traffley Perini, B.A., Class of 2004 Algernon Sydney Sullivan Award Biography
Joanna Perini came to W&L from Huntington, New York and got involved immediately. A regular volunteer in the community, Joanna rose to chair the Nabors Service League, a campus coordinating committee. During the summer before her senior year, she served as a Shepherd Alliance Intern with the Commonwealth of Kentucky's Department of Public Advocacy in London, Kentucky. While serving as a dormitory counselor, her efforts shone on the athletic field as well, especially as women's lacrosse goalie, culminating as captain of the team in her senior year. She also earned numerous conference, state, regional, and national awards, including conference player and scholar-athlete of the year (2004) and one of only six NCAA Community All-Americans. Joanna completed majors in public policy and psychology and was elected to Omicron Delta Kappa. Her postgraduate plans were to head to Gallup, New Mexico, with the Teach for America program.
