Transcript Ordering

The transcript is the complete record of all academic work attempted at Washington and Lee, regardless of whether the student was enrolled in law or undergraduate courses, as a degree-seeking student, or a non-degree student. W&L does not provide official transcripts which segregate individual courses, schools, or terms or reflects only study at one level. The transcript also includes a notation of the student's current status with the university, such as "On campus", "Graduated", or "Voluntarily withdrew".

Official transcripts bear the University seal and the University Registrar's signature and are provided directly to individuals, schools, or organizations with a signed release of the student.

As part of the online ordering process, you can ask to have the transcript delayed until the current term's grades or degrees are posted to the record.

The National Student Clearinghouse, our transcript service provider, recommends use of Chrome (PC) or Safari (Mac) web browser for an optimal ordering experience. Be sure to check your information as you enter it; incorrect information, such as a single-digit error on a birth date, SSN, or ID, can result in delays due to required research on our part to verify the record prior to processing.

The University Registrar does not provide unofficial transcripts or other unofficial documents. Current students who want a simple listing of their Academic Course History should use that link in Self-Service Student Planning.

Transcript Orders

Using our online service for all current and former students, Transcript Ordering, requests for official digital copies of the Washington and Lee University transcript can be fulfilled in as little as 15 minutes, seven days a week / 24 hours a day. Print requests are also made online at any time and will be processed during the normal business week. There is a $5.00 processing fee per recipient within an order, which covers the cost of the online convenience, and various security and confirmation features.

For current students: if the fee for an online transcript order is a significant financial barrier, contact your class dean.

All former and current students can request expedited delivery of printed transcripts via FedEx by supplying a personal FedEx account number for billing. Real-time email and mobile text alerts are posted for each status change on the order and the order can be tracked on the Transcript Ordering Web site. See the Transcript Ordering Web site for information on also uploading an attachment.

Walk-in Requests

Current students may request free paper copies of their official transcript in person at the University Registrar's office at 3 Lee Avenue, during normal business hours. These may be picked up by the student or mailed by the University Registrar's office, on request

Note: Former students who attended and/or graduated prior to 1985 are not in the current database. Requests are made through Transcript Ordering or in person, and records can only be mailed. There is no electronic PDF option.

Administrative or Financial Holds

No transcript will be provided for students with overdue accounts or other holds at the University.

Class Ranks

The student's rank in class does not appear on the transcript but may be requested in writing or, for recent classes, found on the Ranks page.

Apostille / Special Certifications

Apostille and other special certifications may require different information and additional charges.

Office Hours

Outside of our normal weekday operating hours, the Office of the University Registrar is closed for Memorial Day at the end of May; at least one day around July 4; from 12 noon the day before Thanksgiving until 8:30 a.m. Monday following the holiday; for a week at the end of December; and for New Year's Day. Please allow for delivery delays during those times if a paper copy is requested. During the posting of end-of-term grades, no official transcripts for current students will be created once the grading window has opened until all grades for all students have been submitted, in order to avoid sending partial grade information.

Expedited Delivery

For expedited delivery, sign up for an individual account number with FedEx and then give us that account number. Our office cannot accept your credit-card information in payment.
