Washington Street Park
In order to create a visual connection and attractive walking flow between the core campus, the Washington Street corridor, the Lenfest Center for the Arts, and the town of Lexington, several structures will be demolished and others will be renovated, creating a park setting and fresh, welcoming look to existing buildings. Gilliam Hall and some aging houses currently used as offices will be torn down. The solid brick façade and hidden entrance to the Warner Center athletics building will be refreshed with an atrium entrance facing Washington Street, while preserving the magnificent columned face of Doremus gym. A pedestrian walkway will carry foot traffic across Washington Street and through the park and Gaines Hall to the Lenfest Center. Amenities to include benches, lawns for casual play, outdoor art, low-level lighting and even a dog fountain will be placed for enjoyment of both campus and town residents.
