Solar Power Array
The University currently generates electric power from solar panels installed over the parking garage and law school roof. A third array of panels, large enough to power the proposed upper-class housing, could be located out of sight in a valley near the northern border of campus. The University has a commitment to preserve the rural nature of that area and hopes to demonstrate that a solar array in the location is compatible with that commitment. If approved, the installation would be the largest solar generating project in Virginia.
Nearer to the developed portion of the University's property, a large, level yard behind the Liberty Hall Ruins presently serves as contractor storage and staging areas. In the future, the University could relocate its shop and service areas there. The remainder of the site, consisting now of lawns, could accommodate field (throwing) events such as the hammer throw and javelin.
