Salad Bowl Made in China, 1784. Made of Porcelain

This bowl is from a set purchased in 1786 by George Washington. It is decorated with the insignia of the Society of the Cincinnati, an organization of Revolutionary War Officers of which Washington was president. Following Washington's death, the service passed to his step-great-granddaughter, Mary Custis and her husband, Robert E. Lee.
