Curriculum Vitae

Seth Cantey teaches courses on global politics, Middle East politics, intelligence, terrorism, and American foreign policy. He also serves as head of the university’s Middle East and South Asia Studies (MESA) Program. His work is published in Studies in Conflict and Terrorism; Parameters; Media, War & Conflict; The Journal of Intelligence History; and edited volumes by Oxford University Press and others. He has received funding for language training, course development, and research from The US Department of Education, The Mellon Foundation, and The Bradley Foundation, as well as support for teaching and professional workshops from The Council on Foreign Relations, NATO, The US German Marshall Fund, and several US universities. Before joining Washington and Lee, Seth earned a PhD and MA in Political Science, and a graduate certificate in Middle East Studies, from Duke. He also holds an MA in Latin American Studies from Georgetown and a BA in Psychology and Spanish from Bucknell. He is fluent in Spanish and proficient in Arabic and Portuguese.
