Curriculum Vitae

Clyde Yicheng Wang is an assistant professor at the Department of Politics. His research centers around ideology and media politics in authoritarian countries, with a regional focus on China. Clyde’s current book project, When the Party Starts Partying: Structure, Logic, and Contradictions of Propaganda in China's New Era, studies the collaboration between China’s media market, public discourse, and authoritarian propaganda. In addition to this main strand of research, Clyde also studies Chinese foreign policy, nationalism, and intellectual history.
Prior to joining W&L in 2023, Clyde obtained a PhD in political science at Boston University. His academic articles have appeared in peer-reviewed journals such as The Journal of Contemporary China and Nations and Nationalism, and have been mentioned in media outlets such as the Washington Post. Apart from his scholarly work, he also writes as a columnist for several Chinese language media, including The Paper (Pengpai Xinwen) and The Initium (Duan Chuanmei).
