Joey Smith joins the Williams School at Washington & Lee after 5 years of full-time teaching experience, most recently at William & Mary. He holds a DBA (finance) from the University of Florida as well as an LLM in Securities Regulation from Georgetown, an MBA from the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth, and a JD from William & Mary. He is a CFA Charterholder and received his undergraduate degree in Mathematical Economics from Hampden-Sydney College. Prior to his academic career, he held several leadership positions in finance at Walmart Inc. at their headquarters in Bentonville, Arkansas. Before Walmart, he served in the United States Air Force as a JAG Officer where he prosecuted courts-martial, reviewed government contracts, and drafted wills and trusts for servicemembers deploying and retirees in the local area.

Joey is most passionate about teaching corporate finance and investments classes. His research interests include corporate governance, sports finance, and investments. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his family, coaching and refereeing sports, and strategy games such as chess and poker.
