Join Campus Kitchen for a panel discussion with W&L alumna Rebecca Bakare '19. Rebecca will be discussing her work with Mama's Creation Foods to advance womens' economic empowerment and sustainable sourcing in Africa.

About Rebecca Bakare:

Rebecca Bakare is an award-winning, impact-driven entrepreneur focused on using market-based interventions to enable prosperous and healthy lives for all in harmony with nature. Her experience spans strategic and operational management, product development and innovation, and strategic partnership development in the non-profit and private sectors. She is the Founder of Mama's Creation Foods, a for-profit social enterprise that provides smallholder women farmers in Africa with the resource to attain dignified livelihoods while supplying African medicinal plants and nutrient-dense food ingredients to profitable markets.


Ms. Bakare earned her B.A. in Economics from Washington and Lee University in 2019 and a certificate in Women's Entrepreneurship from Cornell University in 2020. Before venturing into the private sector, Rebecca worked in the non-profit sector, where she pursued and refined her interest in using business as a force for good. She co-developed and supported the implementation of an entrepreneurship program for children in rural communities in Ghana. As the Global Search & Operations Associate at Ashoka, Rebecca led the development of a youth empowerment program, mobilized stakeholders, and operationalized several global women's empowerment and social entrepreneurship initiatives.


Through her professional engagements, Ms. Bakare uses her experiences and skillsets to promote the health applications of African plants and nutrient-rich crops, drive women's socio-economic empowerment, and create resilient livelihoods for smallholder farmers in Africa. During her free time, she enjoys traveling, learning about other cultures through food and arts, and expanding her knowledge about tech-enabled health innovations, regenerative agriculture, and the impacts of nutrition on health
