Sustainable Spotlight

Did you know the planting beds in front of Leyburn Library are actually green roofs? They cover utility bunkers - home to steam pipes, hot water convertors and electrical equipment. The planted areas help insulate those spaces. The native plant selections are low maintenance and pollinator-friendly, and the beds help manage water run-off from heavy rain. And that's not the only environmentally-friendly roof at Leyburn!  Just look up from those helpful planted beds to the top of Leyburn's roof and and you will see a solar thermal array which provides hot water to the building.
