How to Submit Information About Sustainability Teaching and Research
W&L's University Sustainability Committee (USC) is collecting information on sustainability-related teaching and research. The information collected will be used to complete W&L's STARS (Sustainability Tracking, Assessment and Rating System) report, a self-reporting system for colleges and universities to measure their sustainability performance in relation to other institutions. STARS is a program of the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE).
While STARS data is made publicly available, it is reported at an institutional level and will not include personal information. However, the USC also plans to compile data from this survey to create a centralized resource to support and connect faculty, staff and students who are interested in sustainability and related issues on our campus. In this case, the information you share in this survey will be included in a listing of faculty, research, courses and initiatives, which will be available on this website.
For the purposes of the survey, we adopt the AASHE definition of sustainability as: "Meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs." Thus, the definition "defines sustainability in a pluralistic and inclusive way, encompassing human and ecological health, social justice, secure livelihoods, and a better world for all generations."
