President John W. Elrod's vision for the Commons was to serve as the "living room" for Washington and Lee University. The Elrod Commons serves as the center of student life and activity. It is the central location for all University constituencies to gather and feel at home.
The Elrod Commons serves as a place to enhance the learning experience of the University, promote social development, and foster collaboration and communication among all. It is home to the following facilities:
- Marketplace Level: The Marketplace, Stackhouse Theater*, WLUR Radio Station
- Colonnade Level: University Store, Atrium*, Outing Club Resource Room (Commons 114)*, Commons Living Room (Commons 120)*, Café 77/Emporium, Dining Administrative Offices, Student Affairs office
- Second Level: Chavis Board Room* (Commons 206), Clothing Closet, Food Pantry, Office of Inclusion and Engagement Center, Office of Inclusion and Engagement Event Space (Commons 216)*, Sacred Space, Student Affairs Staff Offices, Student Organization Room, Student Publications Office
- Third Floor: Career and Professional Development Offices, Executive Committee (EC) Suite, Hearing Advisors Office, Student Affairs Main Office and Staff Offices
