"Coeducation at Washington and Lee"
Over the course of the summer in 2022, I worked with the Department of Institutional History to research Washington and Lee's period of coeducation. In 1984, the Board of Trustees voted to admit women to the previously all male institution. My research began with reading primary sources from the 80s such as reports, newspaper articles, and opinionated letters. I then conducted interviews with some of the first women to graduate from Washington and Lee. The participants shared their first-hand experiences of this transitional time in our University's history.
