James Tyler Dickovick Internship in International Affairs, Global Political Economy, and the Public Interest
The James Tyler Dickovick Internship in International Affairs, Global Political Economy, and the Public Interest, endowed in 2020 by the greater Washington and Lee community supports a summer international internship for a rising sophomore, junior or senior student at Washington and Lee University. The fellowship covers travel and a stipend for a summer of intellectual exploration, personal growth, and community service abroad, ideally in a developing nation.
The award honors a beloved and inspiring educator and scholar who left a lasting imprint on Washington and Lee, where he served on the faculty from 2004- 2019. During his time at Washington and Lee University, Tyler was a distinguished teacher, legendary among students and colleagues alike for his intellectual seriousness, dedication to student learning inside and outside of the classroom, concern with issues of international politics and development, and unforgettable sense of humor. This fellowship seeks to encourage future students to follow in his footsteps, combining intellectual rigor and concern for the welfare of others to their work on international development.
