The Lenfest University-Wide Colloquium October 5, 2019
The Lenfest University-Wide Colloquium, an initiative of the Provost's office, returns on October 5th for a fourth year of presentations. The event showcases the research that faculty members undertake using summer Lenfest Grants. The organizers are now seeking participants, but keep in mind that space is limited.
From 9:30 am to 1 pm on October 5th, participating faculty members will share some element of their Lenfest-funded summer research within a public forum. The event not only allows faculty to demonstrate the valuable work they do; it provides an opportunity for faculty and the larger university community to discuss, collaborate, and inform one another's research.
The format of the colloquium accommodates 12 speakers on a single day of programming. Faculty participants will be allotted approximately 10 minutes to present an excerpt or overview of their research. There will then be a few minutes for Q&A and a few minutes reserved for transitions between speakers. A half-hour "set break" from 11 to 11:30 will allow presenting faculty to answer follow-up questions over coffee and cookies. If you are interested in speaking, please register as a presenter here. Any faculty member who presents at the Lenfest Colloquium can then submit a condensed Lenfest report in lieu of the full report: a one-paragraph summary of the work accomplished and the budgetary accounting. (A modest compensatory gesture, but this at least cuts down a bit of the duplicative work, we hope.)
Faculty who are not interested in presenting are also invited to attend, to learn more about fellow faculty members' research, and to explore and share opportunities for future interdisciplinary collaboration. Because the colloquium will occur during Parents and Family Weekend, students and their family members will also be invited to attend. If you would like to attend without presenting, you can register as an attendee here. (This is important for a head-count for ordering refreshments.)
Registration to present closes on September 27th. Presentations can make use of A/V equipment and are scheduled to take place in 214 Howe Hall (Science Addition).
