History

The Phi Beta Kappa Society (ΦΒΚ), founded in 1776, is the oldest and most prestigious academic honor society in the United States, celebrating excellence in the liberal arts and sciences. Its distinguished membership has included such prominent figures as W.E.B. Du Bois, Mark Twain, Helen Keller, and Amanda Gorman, 17 U.S. Presidents, and 42 U.S. Supreme Court Justices. Membership is by invitation and typically extended during the winter term of students' senior year, though select juniors will also be invited based on outstanding merit.
