The Shenandoah Valley is a mecca for whitewater sports. Canoeing, kayaking and rafting one of the area rivers is a must. There are many rivers within a short drive of Lexington.
W&L is fortunate to be located in the center of the limestone region of Virginia. The state of Virginia contains over 3650 known caves.
Virginia boasts several great climbing areas. Many of these areas are only an hour's drive from Lexington.
The Maury River is located entirely in Rockbridge County and offers great float trips. Parts of South River near Irish Creek are regularly stocked in the Spring and Fall, and fishing is good.

The Lexington area is a mountain bikers dream. Its location in the Shenandoah Valley, flanked by the Allegheny and Blue ridge Mountains, and its proximity to the George Washington and Jefferson National Forests provide for an unusual opportunity to get off paved roads and explore.
Though you don’t think of Virginia when you think of skiing, within three hours drive from Lexington, you will find six different resorts. The areas are small, but they provide a great opportunity for beginning skiers and snowboarders.
These five rides offer a variety of terrain and scenery in Rockbridge County, ranging from flat to rolling to challenging rideable roads for all ability levels. These rides range from short excursions to longer forays into the surrounding countryside.
