Keynote Speaker: Bakari Sellers
Attorney and CNN Political Commentator, Bakari Sellers, will be the BlackFLEX Keynote speaker on February 28th at 6pm EST.
Bakari Sellers made history in 2006 when, at just 22 years old, he defeated a 26-year incumbent State Representative to become the youngest member of the South Carolina state legislature and the youngest African American elected official in the nation.

Nneka Dennie
Assistant Professor of History
Professor Dennie is an Assistant Professor of History and core faculty in Africana Studies. She earned her PhD in African American Studies at the University of Massachusetts Amherst and completed her BA in Political Science with Honors in Africana Studies at Williams College. As a Black feminist scholar specializing in African American intellectual history, Dr. Dennie's courses examine race and gender in the United States and the Caribbean. Her research interrogates the work of nineteenth-century Black women thinkers. Dr. Dennie is currently working on two books, Re-defining Radicalism: The Rise of Black Feminism and the Politics of Respectability in the Nineteenth Century and "We Should Do More, and Talk Less": Mary Ann Shadd Cary's Essential Writings. She is also the president and co-founder of the Black Women's Studies Association.
Elicia Cowins
Assistant Professor of Accounting, Washington and Lee University
Elicia Cowins joined the Williams School in 2015. She is an Assistant Professor of Accounting and Affiliate Faculty of Africana Studies. She received her B.S. in Accounting from Florida A&M University, her MAcc. from Florida State University and her Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill. Prior to pursuing her doctorate, she worked in financial reporting for various companies in publishing, media and software development. Currently, she teaches various courses in financial accounting. Her research centers solvency regulation, portfolio allocation and standard setting issues related to accounting for financial instruments. Originally from Bellevue, Nebraska, Elicia now resides in Lexington with her husband Jamel and their daughter Ameena.
