Tyler Lorig Professor Emeritus

Tyler Lorig

lorigt@wlu.edu

I retired from Washington and Lee University in 2021.  I remain active in olfactory research and matters related to science and public policy.  I am especially interested in the broad application of cognitive and behavioral science to improve health

Education

Post doctoral study, Yale University, 1988
Ph.D., University of Georgia, 1983

Research

My research is concerned with understanding the neurophysiological basis of cognition and its evolution. The primitive nature of the olfactory system provides an interesting avenue to this topic. Most of my research involves recording human brain electrical activity as subjects detect or label odors. I also have strong interests in the analysis and visualization of brain activity.

Teaching

My former teaching roster:

Psych 111: Brain and Behavior
Psych 120: Quantitative Methods in Behavioral Science
Psych 252: Experimental Psychology: Sensation and Perception
Psych 255: Experimental Psychology: Cognitive Neuroscience
Psych 280: Science and Public Policy
Psych 352: Laboratory in Sensation and Perception
