Dr. Erin Murphy teaches applied flute lessons at Washington and Lee University. She also teaches at Mary Baldwin University, where she directs the flute ensemble and teaches applied flute. Erin maintains a private flute studio in Staunton, VA, and is a certified flute repair technician. Erin enjoys being an active freelance flutist in the Shenandoah Valley.

In addition to the modern orchestral flute, Dr. Murphy also specializes in traditional Irish music. She is an active community facilitator of the traditional music of Ireland, and specializes in Irish flute, Irish whistle, and Uilleann bagpipes. She enjoys teaching at festivals and music camps throughout the country, and specializes in helping classically trained musicians learn the fundamentals of traditional Irish music performance.

Dr. Erin Murphy received her Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Flute Performance, Pedagogy, and Literature, and her Master of Music degree in Flute Performance from James Madison University. She received her Bachelor of Music in Flute Performance degree from San Diego State University, and she is a member of Pi Kappa Lambda. Erin is also a former Marine, and former member of the Marine Band.

In her spare time, Erin enjoys spending time with her family on their eco-friendly, historic farm in Staunton, VA. She enjoys ridding her two mustangs, and raising sheep and goats.
