Choral Music

Welcome to the vocal program at Washington and Lee University! Choral and vocal music continues to be a vibrant and vital part of the campus life at Washington and Lee, with W&L's dedicated faculty mentoring, challenging, and inspiring students to achieve their greatest potential. Opportunities exist for all students, regardless of major, to be a part of our exciting program.

Due to W&L's small size, there is a focus on the individual student, from preparing music majors to highest levels possible in performance or education, to nurturing non-majors who continue to have great passion for music along with their other studies. With opportunities from our renowned choirs such as the W&L University Singers, special events like the Lessons and Carols service and ChoralFest, and large-scale stage productions like the annual Bentley Musical/Opera, the W&L vocal program offers endless musical options.

University Singers

The University Singers, the premiere choral ensemble at Washington and Lee University, continues to be recognized as one of the finest a cappella choirs in the region. Under the direction of award-winning conductor Shane M. Lynch, the University Singers tour nationally or internationally every year, performing a wide variety of literature across the globe while serving as artistic ambassadors for W&L in concert series, music festivals, competitions and conventions

Cantatrici

Cantatrici is the treble choir at W&L. Renowned for their evocative singing, they perform regularly on campus and in the community, including the unique annual Winter Choral Concert.

Glee Club

The Glee Club, a W&L tradition dating back to the 19th century, is a widely varied ensemble. Focusing on tenor/bass literature, this highly skilled musical ensemble performs works from contemporary a cappella by groups like the Pentatonics and BYU Vocal Point to classics of the tenor/bass cannon.
