Rebecca Williams joined the Museums at W&L in mid-2018 after completing graduate school at Virginia Tech and several simultaneous part-time positions in the museums and archives fields, including an assistantship in the Virginia Tech Special Collections and University Archives, a position with the Theodore Roosevelt Digital Library in North Dakota, and a Visitor Services internship at the National Museum of the American Indian. Rebecca spent her undergraduate and graduate coursework studying cultural, digital, and public history and completed a Master’s thesis – supplemented by a video essay and two public talks – on the cultural functions of Halloween in the United States at the turn of the 20th century using newspapers, postcards, and other ephemera.

At the Museums at W&L, Rebecca oversees visitor services through the training and management of the Museums’ front-line staff as well as museum store offerings in partnership with the W&L University Store. She also manages the Museums’ social media presence, promotional materials, local community partnerships, and event reservations and planning. Outside of the office, Rebecca is also an active member of the Lexington-Rockbridge Jaycees and serves as its Vice President of Community Development, and works occasional Sundays as a tasting room worker at Lexington Valley Vineyard.
