The University Jazz Ensemble opens its season with its annual collaboration with the Vosbein Magee Big Band—bringing student musicians together with one of the region's leading professional jazz orchestras for an evening devoted to the sound, scale and excitement of the modern big band tradition.

For three decades, the University Jazz Ensemble has been a central part of campus musical life, known for polished section work, bold student soloists, ambitious programming and a repertoire that reaches from classic big band writing to newly created charts. Sharing the stage with the Vosbein Magee Big Band adds the drive and polish of a professional ensemble while keeping the focus on the students and the continuing growth of the university's jazz program.

A highlight of the concert comes when senior members of the University Jazz Ensemble step into the VMBB for featured performances, trading solos and sharing the stage with professional players in one of the ensemble's most anticipated annual traditions.
