Tofteland brings thirty-five years of professional theater experience to his current role as a freelance theater artist-director, actor, producer, playwright, writer, teacher, program developer, and prison arts practitioner.
He is the Founder of the internationally acclaimed Shakespeare Behind Bars (SBB) program. From 1995 - 2008, Tofteland facilitated the SBB|KY program at the Luther Luckett Correctional Complex. During his 13 year tenure, he produced and directed fourteen Shakespeare productions. Two participants in the SBB|KY program have garnered three Pen Literary Prison Writing Awards.
