Tartuffe in this translation was first performed at The Royal National Theatre in 2002, Trevor Nunn, Artistic Director, directed by Lindsay Posner.

Tartuffe, (also titled The Impostor or The Hypocrite) is Molière's masterpiece of dark political comedy. Banned from the French stage when it was written, the play explores religious hypocrisy, power, and one comedic villain's masterful manipulation. Indeed the title character is himself a creation of genius, one that has played successfully in every year since the ban on the play was lifted in 1669. Molière did for comedy what the Greeks did for tragedy-uplifted it to an art form of the highest caliber. Washington and Lee's production celebrates the comedy, recreating the genius of Molière's brilliant satire of French society in full period style!
