Pianist, Anna Billias, and baritone, Gregory Parker will present a recital entitled “Russian Romanticism” on Tuesday, October 15, 2019 at 8 p.m. in Wilson Concert Hall. Dr. Billias will open the program with Alexander Scriabin’s "Two Nocturnes, Op. 5", after which Dr. Parker will join her in presenting three of Rachmaninoff’s "Six Romances, Op. 4". The central portion of the program will feature Billias performing Rachmaninoff’s "Prelude in G-Sharp Minor, Op. 32, No. 12" and "Elegie, Op. 3, No. 1". Next, she will play Mikhail Glinka’s Nocturne, “The Separation” and “The Lark,” composed by Glinka and transcribed by Mily Balakirev. To close the program, Parker will return for a presentation of Modest Mussorgsky’s monumental “Songs and Dances of Death.” This is the second recital in which Drs. Billias and Parker have collaborated at W&L. In September 2018, they presented “Modern American Masters”, which was a version of their July 2018 recital presentation on the "Dimanches Musicaux" concert series at the American Cathedral in Paris.
