AUDITION   INFORMATION:
George Orwell’s 1984 is an original adaptation of the novel, premiering at Washington and Lee University! This adaptation emphasizes the haunting complexity of George Orwell’s classic complete with an incredible multi-media production with live cameras on stage, exploring the meaning of living in a surveillance state—something we’re all too familiar with these days.

1984 is one of the most important books written in the last 100 years and in the past year alone has enjoyed a new spot on the NY Times best seller list! The story is about Winston who lives in an apocalyptic dystopia where he tries to find a way to fight against the system that is controlling him. He writes a journal that incriminates him. He falls in love and forms a relationship with Julia, which is against the law. Imagine a society where love and freedom of expression are illegal!

For auditions, you just need to make sure you’re a bit familiar with the novel and you are welcome to read this new adaptation by checking out a script from the Theater, Dance, and Film Studies department. You’ll be asked to act out some of the scenes from the script. There are ten roles available. Specific scenes (sides) will be available so that you may prepare them in advance.
All are welcome to AUDITION.

If you have questions, please email Professor Sandberg at sandbergs@wlu.edu.
