W&L's Lenfest Center's University Outreach & Engagement Series announces their newest winter season addition-the 'National Theatre Live' series-screenings of top British theater productions. Whether you're in Birmingham, Berlin or Lexington, Virginia—as it plays, moment by moment—this is your ticket to sold-out, award-winning, unmissable theater live from Britain's most exciting stages. The season ends with the screening of "Fleabag" on May 7.
The O&E Series addition is focused on bringing National Theatre Live to the W&L campus-connecting university knowledge and art experiences on the W&L campus and beyond to the community in a mutually beneficial partnership.
"Fleabag," is written and performed by Phoebe Waller-Bridge ("Fleabag;" "Killing Eve") and directed by Vicky Jones, this 67 minute play is a rip-roaring look at some sort of woman living her sort of life. Rated R.
See the hilarious, award-winning, one-woman show that inspired the BBC's hit TV series Fleabag, broadcast live to cinemas from London's West End. "Fleabag" may seem oversexed, emotionally unfiltered and self-obsessed, but that's just the tip of the iceberg. With family and friendships under strain and a guinea pig café struggling to keep afloat, Fleabag suddenly finds herself with nothing to lose.
The play won a host of awards, including two Off West End Theatre Awards; The Stage Award for Best Solo Performer; and the Critics' Circle Award for Most Promising Playwright. The play follows closely the plot of the first series of the TV show and features different characters that don't appear in the TV series.
Originally screened in cinemas in 2019, "Fleabag" was National Theatre Live's best selling production ever at the time of release. Phoebe Waller Bridge has publicly stated, "she will never perform the show again, meaning National Theatre
Live is now the only way to watch this play.
