World-renowned saxophonist and flutist Jeff Coffin will open Washington and Lee University's 2026-27 SonoKlect Concert Series on Saturday, October 17, at 8 p.m. in Wilson Concert Hall. The concert is free and open to the public.

Coffin will be joined by drummer Jordan Perlson and bassist Viktor Krauss, his partners in the CPK Trio, an adventurous collaboration that brings together three musicians with strikingly diverse careers. Adding another dimension to the evening will be special guest Bob Lanzetti, the acclaimed guitarist best known for his work with the Grammy Award-winning ensemble Snarky Puppy.

A three-time Grammy Award winner, Coffin has earned international recognition through his work with Dave Matthews Band and Béla Fleck & the Flecktones, as well as through more than 20 projects of his own. An inventive and immediately recognizable improviser, he draws freely from jazz, funk, rock and music from around the world. Coffin is also a dedicated educator who teaches at Vanderbilt University and has conducted workshops and clinics around the globe.

Perlson brings an equally expansive musical background to the CPK Trio. A versatile and sought-after drummer, he has worked with an unusually broad roster of artists, among them Hiromi, Gary Burton, David Liebman, Adrian Belew, Becca Stevens, Vince Gill, Alison Brown and Kaki King. His career has moved comfortably across jazz, progressive rock, folk, country and experimental music.

Krauss has forged his own distinctive path as a bassist and composer, collaborating with Lyle Lovett, Bill Frisell, Robert Plant and Alison Krauss, James Taylor and Shawn Colvin. Known for a deeply melodic approach to the bass, he has moved fluidly among jazz, Americana and more atmospheric, cinematic music.

Together, Coffin, Perlson and Krauss make music that reflects those varied backgrounds without being confined by them. Improvisation is central to the CPK Trio's approach, with sophisticated arrangements and original compositions providing a framework for three highly individual musical voices to interact and explore new territory.

Lanzetti brings yet another formidable musical voice to the group. A guitarist, composer, producer and educator, he has performed in more than 40 countries with Snarky Puppy and has contributed to the ensemble as a guitarist, writer and arranger. His work outside Snarky Puppy includes collaborations with Cory Henry, Becca Stevens, Bilal, Ghost-Note and Coffin.

The October 17 performance marks the opening of the 2026-27 SonoKlect Concert Series at Washington and Lee University.
