Biography

Dr. Adam Scales is the Assistant Director of Academic Resources in the Harte Center for Teaching and Learning. In this role, he oversees programs and initiatives that foster student learning and success, including academic coaching, peer tutoring, academic support programming, and learning resource projects.

Before arriving at Washington and Lee University, Adam served as a Lead Academic Coach and Faculty Associate in the Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College at Arizona State University and a Learning Development Advisor and Teaching Fellow at the University of Surrey, UK. Adam has experience as faculty, but also in writing centers, summer bridge programs, student success teams, and centers for teaching and learning.

A key interest in Adam’s career is supporting diverse groups of students with their transition to, and success within, postsecondary education. He actively promotes the transformative potential of higher education and empowers students to thrive as learners and global citizens. Adam is a Fellow of the United Kingdom’s Higher Education Academy in Learning and Teaching (FHEA) and an Associate Certified Coach (ACC) with the International Coaching Federation.
