The Global Discovery Laboratories administers quizzes, tests, and examinations to students through the GDL Support Center, room 135, in the Center for Global Learning. All hard copy and digital quizzes, tests, and examinations must be signed out on the electronic system by a GDL specialist. Upon completion of the quiz, test, or examination, the student must report the time of completion to the GDL specialist on duty and return the hard copy test to the same GDL specialist if a hard copy was given to the student. The GDL will be using recommended best practices for Corona virus safety from Washington and Lee University guidelines, the CDC, the Department of Health, as well as the state of Virginia to maintain the wellbeing of students, professors, and specialists when administering tests.

Testing and Placement Testing
Academic Testing Procedures
Placement Testing
For proper placement, first-year students who wish to continue in a language they studied in high school must take a placement test in the language. The procedures for taking these tests are described in this section, and the test could take on-average fifteen to thirty minutes.
World Language Major and Minor Assessment Testing
Students majoring or minoring in Chinese, French, German, Japanese, and Spanish languages are tested prior to graduation. Tests help determine levels of proficiency in a variety of areas.
