About Mattia Vanni
Ciao!
I'm Mattia Vanni. I was born in Lucca, a small town in Tuscany, a region full of art, history, and wonderful landscapes. Even though I've always loved my birthplace, I decided to leave it to study, and I moved to Bologna, the hometown of some of the most famous Italian dishes and of one of the oldest universities in Europe: The University of Bologna. I graduated in Modern Philology with a thesis on Italian Contemporary Literature in which, through a comparative approach, I analyzed two lesser-known Italian novels. Before graduating in Modern Philology, I got a bachelor's degree in Foreign Languages and Literatures with a focus on English and Chinese. Just by looking at my academic career and thesis choice, I guess we can see two of my favorite things to do: reading and exploring other cultures (without ever forgetting my own, though).
Besides these (or maybe because I love them so much), I also like to teach. I think that there might not be anything more fulfilling than knowing that, thanks to you, a student has learned to love a subject. And that is exactly why I'm so glad to be able to spend some time at Washington and Lee University, where I'm sure that I will not only be able to show everyone what Italy is like outside of the postcards, but also learn from everyone around me and explore even more cultures and literatures.
Ciao!
