Language Partner Program
Overview
This program is designed to pair people wishing to practice and speak a common language. It offers students and local community members the opportunity to form new friendships, engage across cultures, and celebrate the value that learning languages brings to our campus. It also helps reduce the anxiety learners may feel when practicing a language in a more formal setting.
Goals
- Improve language proficiency through regular, informal practice
- Promote intercultural understanding and friendships outside of the classroom
- Provide a flexible and supportive environment for language learning
- Involve students outside language programs
Can I participate?
This program is aimed at all community members who would like to speak any target language—if that sounds like you, you're a great fit!
This might include:
- Students studying a language at W&L who want more practice with native/fluent speakers
- International students & people in the local community who want to speak and share their culture with the broader community
- Students who are self-studying languages and lack the opportunities that a classroom provides
How do I join?
Simply fill out the survey attached below! Based on the information you provide and the applications we have recieved, a GDL specialist will pair you accordingly with a language partner. After that, scheduling sessions will be an independent task; you and your partner can figure out what works for you.
If you have any suggestions, questions, or concerns, please email the GDL at gdl@wlu.edu!
