Accepting Your Loans
Washington and Lee University processes all Federal Stafford Loans, Federal Parent PLUS Loans, and Federal Grad PLUS Loans through the William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan Program (referred to as the Direct Loan Program). This allows all students and parents to borrow their Federal Stafford Loans, Federal Grad PLUS Loans, and Federal PLUS Loans directly from the federal government.
Borrowing Your Loan Eligibility
If you have received your financial aid offer and would like to accept/apply for your federal loan eligibility, follow the steps below. NOTE: You do not have to complete the MPN and/or Entrance Loan Counseling IF either of those documents are marked as 'Received' under 'Items Requiring Your Attention' on the Financial Aid on-line portal.
Stafford Loan
- Complete and submit your Financial Aid Offer online paying particular attention to whether you have accepted/declined the Stafford Loan(s). To borrow less than the offered amount(s) indicate the new amount immediately to the right of the original offer.
- Complete BOTH the Stafford Loan Master Promissory Note (MPN) AND Entrance Loan Counseling on the Direct Loan website. Note: If you are a Law student and applying for both the Stafford and the Grad PLUS Loans, you should complete the combination Stafford and Grad PLUS Loan Counseling session.
Parent PLUS Loans
- Review your Financial Aid Offer online to determine the amount of Parent PLUS loan eligibility.
- All PLUS borrowers must complete Apply for a PLUS Loan on the Direct Loan website.
- Complete the Parent PLUS Loan Master Promissory Note (MPN) on the Direct Loan website.
Graduate PLUS Loans
- Complete and submit your Financial Aid Offer online paying particular attention to whether you have accepted/declined the Grad PLUS Loan.
- All Grad PLUS borrowers must complete Apply for a PLUS Loan on the Direct Loan website.
- Complete BOTH the Grad PLUS Loan Master Promissory Note (MPN) AND Entrance Loan Counseling on the Direct Loan website. Note: If you are a law student and applying for both the Stafford and Grad PLUS Loans, you should complete the combination Stafford and Grad PLUS Loan counseling session.
