Educational Grant Program and Tuition Exchange
W&L Employee Educational Grant Program
Dependents of Washington and Lee employees may be eligible for a W&L educational grant depending on the number of years of employment and the date of first employment. Please see the Treasurer's Office Educational Grant Program for details.
Tuition Remission Policy for Washington and Lee's Undergraduate Study
For dependents whose parent(s) meet the eligibility guidelines outlined above and are admitted to Washington and Lee University for undergraduate study the student will receive tuition remission equal to 90% of Washington and Lee's undergraduate tuition. Please see the Treasurer's Office Tuition Remission Policy for details.
Associated Colleges of the South Tuition Exchange
Washington and Lee employees who have children interested in attending one of the participating tuition exchange colleges may be interested in reviewing the ACS tuition exchange program. The tuition exchange program offers 100% of the host college's tuition and fees. In many cases, this assistance may be greater than the Washington and Lee tuition benefit. There is no charge for application for tuition exchange, however, participants must pay a $2,000 annual participation fee, which is matched by Washington and Lee.
To be eligible for tuition exchange, the parent must be eligible for the W&L tuition benefit. Please contact the Treasurer's Office if you wish to confirm your eligibility for this program.
The tuition exchange colleges are: Centenary College, Centre College, Furman University, Hendrix College, Millsaps College, Morehouse College, Rhodes College, Rollins College, Southwestern University, Spelman College, Trinity University, University of Richmond, and Sewanee: University of the South.
Application process for the ACS Tuition Exchange Program
- Contact the Importing institution to confirm their deadlines and to establish communication.
- Complete the W&L ACS Letter of Intent. This is an online form which when submitted is sent directly to the W&L Office of Financial Aid.
- The W&L Office of Financial Aid will complete an ACS Certification Application for you using the information provided on the form, and submit to the ACS application portal. Employees cannot access the portal directly.
- Martha Rowsey in the W&L Office of Financial Aid will notify you once the ACS Application is submitted. Her email address is merowsey@wlu.edu.
- The Importing Institution will review the form and approve or decline your application.
- Parents and students may wish to communicate with the ACS representative at the Importing Institution to verify that all aspects of their ACS application and admissions application are complete.

Great Lakes Colleges Association (GLCA) Tuition Remission Exchange
Washington and Lee employees who have children interested in attending one of the GLCA participating colleges may be interested in reviewing the GLCA tuition exchange program.
To be eligible for tuition exchange, the parent must be eligible for the W&L tuition benefit. Please contact the Treasurer's Office if you wish to confirm your eligibility for this program.
A list of participating institutions, as well as detailed information about the program and all necessary forms, can be found on the GLCA website.
Application process for the GLCA Tuition Exchange Program
- Contact Martha Rowsey in W&L's Office of Financial Aid to confirm eligibility.
- During the admissions application process, the dependent/parent should complete online, then print and sign a TRE Eligibility Form (found on the GLCA website) for each participating college the dependent is applying to and submit those forms to Martha Rowsey. Martha will sign and submit them to the individual institutions. NOTE: The Eligibility Form is required to be completed and submitted each new academic year.
- Once the dependent has decided to attend one of the participating institutions, the dependent should then complete the GLCA TRE Application form (found on the GLCA website) and submit it to Martha Rowsey. Martha will then sign and submit it to that institution.
- Parents and students may wish to communicate with the GLCA representative at the Importing Institution to verify that all aspects of their application and admissions application are complete.
