I use the skills I acquired as an English major on a daily basis. W&L's English curriculum helped me enhance my communication skills, which have proved invaluable in my job as a consultant. Clients and colleagues ask me to distill complex issues and policies down to the most salient points, and communicate my findings and analysis in a clear and concise way. My English degree helps me succeed in these tasks, as it enhanced my ability to assess problems, analyze text, and write strong and effective prose. In addition, the degree helped me hone my technical writing skills, which have made me a go-to editor among colleagues and friends. Outside of work, my English degree influenced my decision to start a book club, which allowed me to recreate the stimulating environment of my W&L English classes in Washington, DC.
