Modern Chinese Literature in Translation
This course introduces important literary works of modern and contemporary China from early 20th century to the present. Students will explore such issues as nationhood, modernity, gender, individuality, the relationship between literature and ideology, as well as China’s encounter with the West throughout twentieth century into the current age of globalization. (It fulfills the requirements for FDR HL/EALL Major/EAS minor.)
