Remediating an Existing Document
As in the web environment, navigation and orientation are key tasks a screen reader user must perform in order to read a linked document. Not only must content be apparent to the screen reader, the user must have some way of getting to the relevant information in the document without reading the document front to back.
If you have access to the original document file, you may be able to follow the steps under Creating an Accessible Document to remediate the document for accessibility.
If you do not have access to the original document file, you may outsource the remediation at a cost of $5-100 per page, depending on the complexity of the document.
In either scenario, documents must be approved and posted by Steve Mammarella, Web Accessibility Coordinator.
