Patrick Summers has been a freelance musician since 2008 and remains dedicated to that freedom. He started his career in California playing piano and sax for community/professional groups in styles such as big band swing, jazz fusion, reggae, rock, among others. During that same time, he began his journey into musical theater and has since been involved with over 50 shows from community theater to equity theater across the country as well as a developmental project on Broadway.

He regularly accompanies choirs in the Rockbridge area, performs with students for junior and senior recitals, and directs musicals at both W&L and SVU. Current 2023 projects include orchestration for a musical addressing Dementia, composing art songs, and writing his own musicals. He graduated from Southern Virginia University with a degree in composition and received a master’s degree from The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in Music Direction for the Stage. He lives by and teaches through the mantra, ‘Creativity is the synthesis of intelligence and imagination.’
