Josh Sheppard is an educator, performer, and composer based in Harrisonburg, Virginia. He is currently completing his Masters Degree in Music Performance at James Madison University, studying under professor Casey Cangelosi. In addition to his degree work, Josh serves as the Graduate Percussion Assistant and performs in various university ensembles. He holds Bachelor of Arts degrees in Music Education and Music Performance from George Mason University, where he studied under professors Jonathan Bisesi and John Kilkenny.
Josh has also performed with multiple competitive marching ensembles, including Phantom Regiment and Matrix World Indoor Percussion. He attended the Sewanee Summer Music Festival in the summer of 2019 and was the winner of the Jaqueline Avent Concerto Competition. He has also been a finalist in the JMU Concerto/Aria Competition and the 2024 Modern Snare Drum Competition.
Outside of his work at JMU, Josh currently serves as an Adjunct Professor of Percussion at Washington and Lee University, and is the Music Coordinator for the WGI PIO finalist group Spectre Percussion. In the future, Josh plans to pursue a DMA in Percussion Performance while expanding his role in leadership in the marching arts.
