A proud W&L alumnus ('05), Dr. Allen is a child, adolescent, and adult psychiatrist, who started his mental health career as a dorm counselor in Graham-Lees. Following his time in Lex, he attended the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio for medical school and general psychiatry residency – note, that it was during this time period that he met his wife, Cat Allen ('11), who found him on the Colonnade Connections website and spurred the WLU article "Colonnade Connections is the New Match.Com." True story. After residency, he completed a child & adolescent psychiatry fellowship at New York-Presbyterian Hospital - Columbia/Cornell and then spent a post-graduate year in Christchurch, New Zealand, where he received additional eating disorder training. Dr. Allen has earned the International Olympic Committee’s Diploma in Mental Health in Elite Sport and is a founding board member and the current Chairman of the American Board of Sports & Performance Psychiatry. Presently, Dr. Allen is privileged to act as the psychiatric consultant for the Los Angeles Dodgers baseball team. Dr. Allen resides in Denver, Colorado, and—in his spare time—he enjoys playing golf, hiking, and spending time with his wife, son, and fur-kids.
Please note that Dr. Allen is not on campus. All appointments are scheduled through the Counseling Office at 540-458-8590 and are done via telehealth.
